Dr. Melissa Van Scoy is a licensed Clinical Psychologist.
Dr. Van Scoy brings a warm, calming, and collaborative presence to her work, helping patient navigate the complex relationship between physical health and emotional well-being. She is especially skilled at creating a steady, reassuring environment for patients who may feel overwhelmed or dysregulated, allowing meaningful therapeutic work to begin even in the most challenging moments.
Dr. Van Scoy earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School – Texas Child Study Center. Her training has been deeply rooted in integrated medical care with a heavy focus on pediatric psychology. Her experience in a pediatric gastroenterology clinic was particularly formative, where she worked on an interdisciplinary team to support children with GI conditions using cognitive-behavioral therapy and gut-directed interventions. She is passionate about helping families understand the gut–brain connection in a developmentally appropriate and empowering way, equipping both patients and caregivers with practical tools to reduce symptoms and improve daily functioning. She tailors interventions to each child’s developmental level and family system, emphasizing collaboration, psychoeducation, and skill-building to support lasting change.
Dr. Van Scoy’s clinical superpower is her calm, grounding presence. She has a natural ability to regulate the emotional tone of a session, helping children and families feel safe, understood, and supported. This steady demeanor is particularly impactful for patients experiencing high levels of anxiety, distress, or emotional reactivity, allowing them to engage more fully in treatment and begin making progress.
Outside of work, Dr. Van Scoy enjoys hiking and camping with her partner, reading, and exploring new places.
