Building upon foundational hypnosis skills, this workshop focuses on anxiety disorders, stress-related conditions, and pain. Participants will learn advanced induction and deepening techniques, methods for enhancing autonomic regulation, and strategies for fostering resilience and self-efficacy. Emphasis is placed on tailoring interventions to individual patient presentations.

The cost of the training is $650 and cost includes the 3 day training, resulting in 20 CEs and credit towards ASCH certification.

Meet the Instructors
Dr. Mary Wells is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been in practice for over 30 years in the areas of rehabilitation and pain management. She completed her graduate work at The George Washington University and started her career at the Washington Pain and Rehabilitation Center in Washington DC. She went from there to VCU Health System in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as a rehab psychologist, providing services to a full range of rehabilitation patients on both the inpatient and outpatient service. She left VCU to work in an interdisciplinary pain clinic in the community, and later went into private practice.
In 2000, she joined the medical psychology department at Sheltering Arms Hospital, first as a staff psychologist and later as director of the department, a post she held for 10 years. She has recently returned to the VCU Dept. of PMR and is currently working as part of an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System to provide services to patients with chronic pain due to a variety of medical conditions. She provides evaluations and psychological treatment for management of chronic pain.
She has been using clinical hypnosis for treating chronic pain and other medical illness issues, has been an ASCH member since 2004 and has been teaching with ASCH since 2009, first as a small group facilitator and later as faculty in Level 1, Level 2 and Advanced workshops. She has been a board member of ASCH episodically over the last 10 years.
David Gaffney has 40+ years of clinical social work experience, serving in positions from line staff to Director of Behavioral Health before arriving at the VA, where he has served for 21 years.
He currently is a Clinical Social Worker at the Aleda E Lutz VAMC in Saginaw, Michigan, providing psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, biofeedback and mindfulness training in the MH Integrated Pain Clinic. He also runs a private practice in the Mid-Michigan area.
David serves with the VA National Office of Mental Health as consultant for the VA CBT-Chronic Pain program and serves for the VA OPCC&CT (Office of Patient-Centered care and Cultural Transformation) in the IHCC (Integrative Health Coordinating Center) as the VA National Champion for hypnosis and guided imagery and national subject matter expert for biofeedback, hypnosis and guided imagery.
David is also the Director of Training at D. K. Associates, a Midwest-based behavioral healthcare training
organization, and has served on the board for the MidWest Society of Behavioral Medicine and Biofeedback.
David has been teaching psychotherapy hypnosis and guided imagery for over 40 years as well as acting as field instructor and lecturer for multiple Michigan colleges and universities. He is a frequent presenter
and trainer for multiple national professional organizations.
He is co-developer of the VA national basic, intermediate and advanced Clinical Hypnosis courses and co-designer of the VA national Guided Imagery certification course and the VA “Guided Imagery for Well-Being” course.
Ali Navidi, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and Co-Founder and CEO of GI Psychology, a nationwide practice specializing in behavioral care for gastrointestinal conditions and chronic pain. With more than a decade of clinical experience, he has particular expertise in gut-directed hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for GI (CBT for GI), with comprehensive training in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
A founding member and past president of the Northern Virginia Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Dr. Navidi also oversees clinical training at GI Psychology and regularly provides education on GI behavioral health to healthcare professionals and organizations across the country. He has presented to organizations including the American College of Gastroenterology and leading academic medical institutions, and his expertise has been featured in The Washington Post and The Atlantic, and more than 40 podcasts, including Gastro Girl with Jacqueline Gaulin with and The PedsDocTalk Podcast with Dr. Mona Amin.
Dr. Ali Chadderdon is a licensed clinical psychologist and a recognized leader in clinical hypnosis, currently serving as Co-Chair of the Intermediate Workshop Program for the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) Annual Conference, a role she has held since 2020. In recognition of her contributions to the field, she has received SCEH’s Presidential Award for Service and Commitment to Training in 2022, 2023, and 2025.
Dr. Chadderdon’s hypnosis training began at Vanderbilt University’s Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, where she received direct mentorship from renowned hypnosis experts Drs. Dave Patterson and Lindsey McKernan, focusing on hypnosis for pain management and complex trauma. She went on to deepen this expertise during her postdoctoral fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic’s Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program, where she provided group clinical hypnosis for pain control alongside an integrated medical team.
Before joining GI Psychology, Dr. Chadderdon integrated clinical hypnosis into her work with military veterans through the VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System, and offers hypnosis services to clients across all PSYPACT states through Attune Philadelphia Therapy Group. She has provided formal supervision and mentorship in clinical hypnosis since 2021, and has presented on complex applications of hypnosis, including trauma, obsession, and complex pain, at multiple SCEH Annual Conferences. She has also been invited to peer review upcoming hypnosis literature, including a second edition text on clinical hypnosis for pain control. Currently, she is a clinical psychologist with GI Psychology providing specialized, evidenced based treatments for disorders of the gut brain interaction and other complex medical conditions.

This workshop is intended for licensed healthcare professionals practicing within their scope of licensure, including psychologists, clinical social workers, and other eligible clinicians. Content is presented at an Intermediate-to-Advanced instructional level, building directly on foundational hypnosis skills.
Prerequisite: Completion of an ASCH-approved Level 1 course in clinical hypnosis.
Graduate students must have completed at least one full semester and provide proof of full-time enrollment at an accredited institution. Residents, interns, and fellows must submit documentation from a supervisor confirming program participation.
Attendance for the entire duration of the training is required for any CEs or credit. Partial attendance is not allowed.

Our team will confirm registration and send the required forms that must be completed prior to the start of the training. These include an Acknowledgement and Release and a Small Group Rapport form for the facilitators. We will also require a letter of completion from Level I.
This program follows the ASCH Level II curriculum in clinical hypnosis and is designed to meet the training requirements for ASCH certification. Completion of an ASCH-approved Level I course is a prerequisite for attendance. This training is approved towards membership and certification requirement from ASCH.
Participants who are fully present and actively engaged for the duration of the workshop are eligible for 20 hours of APA continuing education credit for psychologists. Certificates of attendance will be issued the week of October 26, 2026.
